HU:PU
art installation | midburn 2017
Hupu (Hoopoe) is the national bird of Israel.
In 2017, with the help of a team of fellow artists - we brought Hu:pu to Midburn - a temporary city in the desert. We wanted to bring this cultural symbol to life and create an embracing haven - providing shade during the day and fire at night. This 12.5 meter bird with her wings wide open and sipping the nectar of a flaming lotus was a place of gathering, where one could listen to concerts or watch a fire show.
After a week in the desert, Hupu found a new home, and you can visit her in the central square of Midreshet Sde Boker.
